PROHIBITED CONTENT POLICY

Our Commitment

UNSEENPRESS DISTRO CLUB champions independent photography and creative expression. We believe in supporting challenging, provocative, and boundary-pushing work. However, we have zero tolerance for content that violates UK law or causes genuine harm to individuals or communities.

Strictly Prohibited Content

The following content will result in immediate removal and may lead to account termination:

1. Terrorist Content & Violent Extremism

Not permitted:

  • Content that encourages, promotes, or provides instruction for acts of terrorism
  • Publications glorifying or celebrating terrorist acts or organisations proscribed under UK law
  • Material recruiting for or radicalising individuals toward violent extremist causes
  • Instructional content for creating weapons, explosives, or planning attacks
  • Propaganda materials from designated terrorist organisations

Note: Documentary photography, photojournalism, and academic work that depicts or discusses terrorism in a critical, educational, or historical context is permitted when appropriately contextualized.

2. Hatred, Discrimination & Harassment

Not permitted:

  • Content that incites violence, hatred, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on:
    • Race, ethnicity, or national origin
    • Religion or belief system
    • Sexual orientation or gender identity
    • Disability
    • Age
    • Any other protected characteristic under UK law
  • Direct threats, harassment, or intimidation targeting specific individuals
  • Content deliberately created to degrade, dehumanise, or mock protected groups
  • “Doxxing” – publishing private information with intent to harm or harass
  • Coordinated harassment campaigns

Artistic expression vs. hate speech: We recognise that photography often explores difficult social realities, documents injustice, or critiques power structures. Work that:

  • Critiques ideologies, institutions, or public figures
  • Documents social issues including discrimination
  • Contains challenging or confronting imagery addressing social problems
  • Explores controversial historical or political subjects

…is generally acceptable if the intent is documentary, educational, or critical commentary rather than promoting hatred.

3. Child Safety

Absolutely prohibited:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form
  • Sexualized depictions of minors or content that sexualizes children
  • Content facilitating child exploitation or grooming
  • Violations of this policy will be reported to the National Crime Agency

Family and documentary photography of children in non-sexual contexts is permitted.

4. Graphic Violence & Gore

Not permitted:

  • Gratuitous depictions of extreme violence for shock value alone
  • Content glorifying or celebrating violence against individuals
  • Animal cruelty or abuse imagery

Permitted with context:

  • War photography and photojournalism
  • Documentary work on social violence, conflict, or human rights
  • Historical documentation
  • Forensic or educational imagery

Vendors must include clear content warnings for graphic documentary work.

5. Non-Consensual Content

Not permitted:

  • Intimate images or videos shared without subject’s consent (“revenge porn”)
  • Voyeuristic or secretly captured intimate content
  • Deepfakes or manipulated imagery falsely depicting individuals in sexual or compromising situations

6. Illegal Activities

Not permitted:

  • Content depicting, promoting, or instructing in illegal activities
  • Fraud, scams, or deceptive practices
  • Sale of illegal goods, drugs, weapons, or counterfeit items
  • Copyright infringement or stolen intellectual property

Grey Areas & Artistic Judgement

We understand photography exists to challenge, provoke, and document uncomfortable truths.

Content that some may find offensive, disturbing, or controversial is not automatically prohibited. We evaluate reports based on:

  • Intent: Is this documenting reality, making social commentary, or inciting harm?
  • Context: Does the work provide framework for understanding difficult subjects?
  • Artistic merit: Is this legitimate creative or documentary practice?
  • Legal compliance: Does it violate UK law?

Examples of challenging work we typically support:

  • Nude photography (adults, artistic/documentary context)
  • Political protest imagery and dissent
  • Documentation of social decay, poverty, or injustice
  • Confronting war and conflict photography
  • LGBTQ+ themes and expression
  • Religious critique or questioning
  • Subcultural and countercultural documentation

Reporting & Enforcement

If you believe content violates this policy:

  1. Use the “Report Content” button on any product page
  2. Provide specific concerns and relevant details
  3. We will review within 48 hours

Our response process:

  1. We review all reports objectively
  2. We consult vendors before action when appropriate
  3. We consider context and artistic intent
  4. We remove content only when violations are clear
  5. Vendors may appeal removal decisions

Sanctions for violations:

  • First violation: Warning and content removal
  • Repeat violations: Temporary suspension
  • Serious violations: Permanent account termination
  • Illegal content: Reporting to relevant authorities

Your Responsibilities as a Vendor

By selling through UNSEENPRESS DISTRO CLUB, you confirm:

  • You own rights to all content you publish
  • Your content complies with UK law
  • You will respond to content concerns promptly
  • You accept our decision-making authority on content matters
  • You will provide content warnings where appropriate

Content Warnings

Please add content warnings for:

  • Graphic violence or disturbing imagery
  • Explicit sexual content
  • Content addressing trauma, suicide, or self-harm
  • Potentially triggering documentary subjects

Simply note in your product description: “Content warning: [brief description]”

Our Commitment to Transparency

We will:

  • Apply this policy consistently and fairly
  • Explain removal decisions with specific policy references
  • Protect artistic freedom while ensuring legal compliance
  • Review and update this policy as laws and community standards evolve
